General Information

What is your dress hire process?

  1. Browse Our Collection - Our website is only a platform to view garments. You can't rent directly through the website.
  2. Select your garment - Make sure to read the garment description for all the information you need to make your decision. You must also read and understand the rental agreement as by booking you are agreeing to be bound to its Terms & Conditions.
  3. Get in contact - Email obsessedwiththatdress@gmail.com with the following information:
  • Your garment of choice
  • Proof of address
  • Photo ID
  • If under 18 years of age, Parent/Caregiver photo ID

4. Make your payment - Payment is made via bank transfer and consists of:

  1. Rental price
  2. Shipping
  3. Refundable bond

Once this is received your booking is confirmed.

What is the rental period?

For pickups, you can collect your garment 1-3 days before your event. For postage rentals, the garment will be posted so that it arrives 1-4 days before your event. All rentals must be returned the next business day after your event. For weekend rentals this would be the Monday (unless Monday is a public holiday).

Where are you located?

We are based in 2 locations, depending on the time of year.

  1. From late January to early November we are usually based in North Dunedin. At our Dunedin location over this time period, you are welcome to organise an in person try-on for $10.
  2. Over the summer from early November to late January, we are based in Auckland. Over this period of time in person try-ons are not available as I live rurally, about 1 hour out of central Auckland.

Do you offer in person try-ons?

Yes, we do! If you live in Dunedin during the year from late January to early November, you can book a try-on for $10. This $10 will be deducted from the rental price if you decide to rent a garment after your try-on. During the try-on you are welcome to try any garments on for 45 minutes. We are based in North Dunedin, the exact location will be given once a try-on has been booked. To book simply email obsessedwiththatdress@gmail.com

Do you offer postal try-ons?

Yes, for 1/2 the rental price you can try-on the garment of your choice. The process is the same as a regular rental and will also require shipping and the refundable bond to be paid. The only difference is when the garment needs to be returned. Unlike a regular weekend rental where the garment is returned the next working day after your event (Monday unless Monday is a public holiday), for a postal try-on the garment must be returned the next working day after it is received. For example, if the garment was delivered on a Wednesday, you have Wednesday night to try on the dress before it must be returned on the next working day, which would be Thursday.

How do I return my garment?

When you receive your garment before your event, it will include a prepaid postal bag that is pre addressed back to me. To return the dress simply seal the garment in the included bag and hand it in to your local post office before 4pm the next working day after your event (for weekend rentals, this is usually a Monday unless Monday is a public holiday).

My garment is dirty/damaged after I wore it, what should I do?

Do not attempt to wash or fix the garment yourself as you risk damaging the garment. Just return the dress as is and for more serious issues with your garment, please email me in advance to inform me about the issue.

Can I suggest garments I would like to see be added to your collection?

Absolutely! We highly encourage you to suggest anything not already available in NZ, vintage or unique and we will consider it for future purchase. In fact much of our current collection was suggested by you girls and we are always looking for our next purchase. Let us enable you to wear your dream dress!

Bookings & Cancellations

What do I need to email you to book?

  1. Name of the garment/s you would like to book
  2. Date of your event
  3. Your photo ID & your parent/caregivers' photo ID if you are under the age of 18.
  4. Proof of address, this can be any official document that has your name and address printed on it, such as a bank statement or recent utility bill.

Can I book a dress that hasn't arrived yet?

Yes you can by putting down a $20 deposit. A deposit secures a date for a garment that is on it's way to us. It is non-refundable, but in the case that the garment does not arrive in time for the date of your event, store credit for the $20 will be offered. If the garment does arrive in time for your event, full payment and booking information will be required within a week of the dress arriving.

What is your cancellation policy?

If you need to cancel your rental booking for any reason, including a change of mind or event cancellation we can offer a store credit up to 7 days before your event. Within 7 days of the event the rental price is non-refundable and no store credit will be provided.

How long does store credit last?

Our store credit does not expire, feel free to get in contact and use it anytime.

How far in advance should I be booking?

The earlier the better! Especially for more popular garments, we would recommend booking 2 months in advance. If the garment you're after is booked already, we can notify you if they cancel.

I need a last minute rental, when is the cut-off date to book?

For Dunedin pickups, get in contact and it can likely be organised up to the time of your event. For postage rentals, Wednesday 11am before a weekend event is the cut-off time to complete your booking, this includes payment.

Shipping

Do you ship NZ wide?

Yes, we offer NZ-wide shipping for rentals and postal try-ons.

Do you ship internationally?

No we do not, shipping is only available within NZ.

How long does shipping take?

All packages are sent with courier overnight shipping which typically takes 1-2 working days.

Can I track my order once it is shipped?

Yes of course! Once your order is shipped you'll receive an NZ Post tracking number via email.

Is there a risk my garment won't arrive on time?

We want to be as transparent as possible so yes, unfortunately there is a risk when hiring a dress and this is consistent with all dress rental businesses. We will do everything in our power so that you recieve your garment on time. There are factors that are out of our control that may prevent your garment from arriving in time such as the previous renter damaging the dress or NZ wide postage delays. In the case that your garment does not arrive on time due to unforeseen cicumstances, store credit will be offered.

Payment

Why is there a bond and what is it?

We require either a $100 or $50 bond (depending on the garment, find out this information in the description) to be paid with the rental price + shipping. The bond is refundable, and will be refunded to the same bank account it was transferred from within a week of the dress being returned to us on time and undamaged.

We require a bond for a few reasons.

  1. Many of our garments are irreplaceable and NZ exclusive. This means in the case of damage many of our dresses require professional repair or when damaged beyond repair, can't be replaced. The bond gives us confidence the renter will be able to cover the repair costs or full RRP of the dress and that they are prepared to look after the garment as if it were their own.
  2. For late returns there is a $25 late fee for each business day past the end of the rental period that the dress is not returned. In this case, the late fee can be taken straight from the bond which helps us avoid non-payment of a late fee.

Can I pay the bond closer to the date of my event?

Yes you can! We understand the upfront cost when booking a garment can be a lot, so we allow renters to book a garment by just paying the rental price + shipping. If you choose to pay the bond later, ensure this is done about a week prior to your event, as I cannot ship the garment to you if the bond has not been paid, nor can I refund you the rental price + shipping if you don’t pay the bond.

Is there a late fee if I return the dress late?

Yes, it is $25 a day and this will be taken from your bond.

How much is shipping?

Shipping depends on the size of the garment. Larger garments are $18, smaller garments are $15. Find out the shipping cost in the description of the the garement listing.
